From MyScouting at www.scouting.org, go to Tour Permits and enter the necessary information for the tour. Your transportation and training information will be saved, so it won't have to be entered for future permits. For help, call 619-298-6121. | | District Roundtable Meeting | | Torrey Pines District Boy Scout and Cub Scout Roundtables provide valuable information and training for Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Assistants, and Committee Chairs. Torrey Pines District Roundtables are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the LDS Stake Center, 4741 Mt. Abernathy, San Diego from 7-9 pm. Join us at the next Torrey Pines Cub Scout and Boy Scout Roundtables. Bring your questions, and share your experiences with other Scout leaders. Get to know what other Troops and Packs are doing, what works and what doesn't. Head home armed with handouts and souvenirs. For more information, contact Roundtable Commissioner, Ken Powalisz, by phone at (760) 216-2554 or by email. | | Unit Commissioners Needed! | | You have been Cubmaster or Scoutmaster or Committee Chair, but now your son has bridged out or aged out of the unit. What do you do now? You love being part of the unit, but you know it's important to step aside and let the parents of active Scouts fill those leadership roles. Yet you possess the knowledge base that your unit needs to succeed. Your next job should be Unit Commissioner. The Unit Commissioner serves as friend, representative, doctor, teacher, and counselor. He assists the unit and the chartered organization with the things he's learned from experience: rechartering. running ceremonies, outing planning, training boys and leaders, organizing, recruiting, and more. Take the next step. Become a Unit Commissioner and mentor your old unit. Help keep it strong, healthy, happy, rechartered on time, and successful as a Centennial Quality Unit. If this sounds interesting, contact District Executive, Trent McClure at (619) 298-6121 or by Email. | | Are You In This Picture? San Diego Scouting History | | Are you in one of these old photos or do you recognize someone? The Boy Scout Troop appears to be from Coronado, circa 1919. The Wood Badge Buffalo Patrol photo includes the late Joel Warner on the right end of the back row. San Diego Scout Historian, Kevin Ewers, is compiling a history of Scouting in San Diego, and plans to publish his findings in print and on the Internet. If you have interesting San Diego Scouting memorabilia: photos, clippings, flyers, programs, patches, stories, etc., scan or photograph them and send to Kevin Ewers at scoutcollector@cox.net, or phone Kevin, and he will do it for you. If you are a Scouting "old timer", give Kevin a call at (619) 940-2977. He'd like to interview you for his publications. To visit his San Diego Scouting History website, click Read more... | |
